Murad Acne Complex Review

The Murad Acne Complex Kit is aimed towards individuals who have tried other acne products or kits in the past and have not had success in treating their acne. Since I have tried many over-the-counter acne products and have had very little success, I decided to give the Murad Acne Complex Kit a try and thankfully, I was not disappointed.

The kit includes a Clarifying Cleanser, Exfoliating Treatment Gel and the Skin Perfecting Lotion. From my personal experience, these three products work in perfect harmony and effectively treat acne while maintaining moisture levels and not irritating the skin. After using this product for over five years, I feel as though I have finally found a set of products that will keep my skin consistently clear and acne is no longer a concern of mine. While I have had great success with this kit, I will provide a detailed review of the products included and list all the potential positives and negatives associated with the Murad Acne Complex Kit.

Clarifying Cleanser

After using this cleanser, my skin feels clean and it is not stripped of its natural oils. The menthol is not overpowering and makes my skin look and feel invigorated.

• Contains salicylic acid

This ingredient is a beta hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin and promotes the removal of dead skin cells. Since salicylic acid is able to thoroughly penetrate the follicle and is an anti-inflammatory, it keeps pores clear through the regular shedding of dead skin cells. When pores are kept free of debris, the occurrence of acne will significantly decrease.

• Non-abrasive

The Clarifying Cleanser does not contain any harsh abrasives and is extremely gentle on skin.

• No strong chemical odor or perfume smell

Unlike other cleansers that have a strong, overpowering odor, the Clarifying Cleanser has a light scent that is hardly noticeable.

• Kills bacteria

This cleanser contains silver citrate, which has strong antibacterial properties and helps to eliminate acne-causing bacteria on the skin.

• Contains anti-oxidants

Green tea extract and menthol work together to reduce inflammation and calm skin.

Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel

Although this gel is slightly sticky and takes several minutes to dry after it is applied, it is a product that is very effective at treating existing acne and preventing the formation of acne blemishes.

• Acne-fighting ingredients

This acne gel contains a hydrogen peroxide delivery system, which ensures that salicylic acid, retinol and glycolic acid deeply penetrate the pores and keep them clear of acne-causing bacteria and debris.

• Reduces oil production

In addition to improving the skin’s texture, retinol works by decreasing the amount of oil that is produced by the skin.

• Exfoliates skin

Glycolic acid is a mild exfoliant and treats acne by stimulating cell turnover and promoting the removal of dead skin cells.

Skin Perfecting Lotion

I have found this moisturizer to be the perfect complement to the other Murad acne products and it helps to reduce the appearance of pores while providing the perfect amount of moisture to my skin.

• Hydrates skin

Provides an adequate amount of moisture without causing skin to feel or look oily.

• Oil-free

Since the Skin Perfecting Lotion is oil-free, it will not exacerbate acne or cause the occurrence of new blemishes.

• Skin soothing

A mix of botanicals such as Queen of Meadow extract and Arnica help to soothe inflammation and improve the look and feel of skin.

•Minimizes shine

Retinol decreases oil production for skin that is matte and free of excess oils.

In my experience, the Murad Acne Complex Kit has numerous advantages when compared to other acne products. I have never found these products to be harsh on my skin and they have never caused irritation. When I first started using the items in this kit, I was able to see a noticeable difference in my skin within one week. I believe these products have the right balance of acne-fighting ingredients and natural botanicals that result in skin that is consistently clear.

While I did not experience a worsening of my acne when first using these products, it is possible that the exfoliants in these products can purge the skin and may actually worsen acne for a short period of time. This occurs as the active ingredients bring debris and impurities to the surface, which can result in an increase in breakouts. For many who experience this purging process, it is relatively short-lived and skin begins to clear after the process has completed. For others, however, their acne does not improve and gradually worsens over time.

Even though these products successfully treat acne, they are rather expensive when compared with other products obtained over-the-counter. However, since you only need to apply a small amount of the products, they become slightly more cost-effective.

It should also be noted that individuals with sensitive skin may experience an increase in dryness and irritation when first using these products. This can be alleviated by using the exfoliating gel once a day rather than twice a day.

Clean and Clear Review

Clean and Clear is a well-known line of cleansing products, aimed at combating teen acne. As time has gone by, and more acne medications have become available, they have expanded their product line. One of the products that many skin care lines have developed are complete acne kits, and Clean and Clear has developed their own. The Clean & Clear Advantage kit includes a cleanser, a moisturizer and spot treatment. According to advertising, the The Clean & Clear Advantage kit promises to help treat and prevent breakouts, and says that people saw clearer skin in just one day. The Acne Control kit also states that it will soften skin, and has medication that can target problem areas.

How Does It Work?

The Clean & Clear Advantage kit works using two main active ingredients, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Those two ingredients are the most popular, and generally most effective ingredients available, for combatting acne. Salicylic acid works by focusing on increasing and improving cell turnover. By causing skin cells to break away and shed more frequently pores are less clogged, and less prone to acne. Additionally, salicylic acid neutralizes bacteria, and it constricts pore diameters, which prevents them from clogging again. Benzoyl peroxide works in concert with the salicylic acid, it also increases cell turnover, helping to clear out dead cells, and keeping them from clogging pores. Benzoyl peroxide also kills bacteria and can help prevent their growth, keeping pores clear.

There aren’t very many. In theory, all of the ingredients for succesful acne control are in there, but the product has a lot of issues. See the cons section for more. I have seen reports of people that have had success with this product, so I don’t want to say that it never works, but I was not happy with the Clean & Clear Advantage kit.

People with sensitive skin should stay far, far away from this product. Same thing goes if you have dry skin, or skin that flakes or peels. Without getting too technical, the issue with this product seems to lie with their concentration of the active ingredients of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Clean and Clear seemed to have gotten the idea that if some of an ingredient works, then think of how well tons and tons of an ingredient will work. Basically, benzoyl peroxide concentrations range from 2.5% all the way up to 10%. Benzoyl peroxide, even in lower concentrations, regardless of skin sensitivity, can cause extreme drying, redness and peeling. In sufficient amounts it can cause chemical burns. (This is not a common occurrence though.) Most dermatologists recommend that you start with a lower concentration, and allow your skin to acclimate to it. However the Clean & Clear Advantage kit has a full 10% concentration. Add that to the amount of drying that salicylic acid can cause, and you end up with red, dry, cracking skin.
While I have admittedly sensitive skin, reading online, this is a common reaction. Skin is quite honestly, just not ready for that much drying and cell turnover without any build up to it. Perhaps if you have incredibly oily skin, this product would be a great fit for you, however, what this product did was make my skin worse than before. After only two days of using the product I stopped; my skin looked like I had a terrible sunburn.

I cannot possibly recommend this product to anyone, unless they complain of incredibly oily skin. And even then, I’d still probably hesitate. The product is unfortunately known for causing peeling, cracking, drying and reddening of skin, and this was the exact experience I had. If I had stuck with it, it might have improved, but there are far better products out there that don’t have all the negative side effects.

Biore Unclogging Scrub Review

Almost every beauty magazine has a section devoted to drugstore bargains. While you can easily find expensive cosmetics that work, finding cheap products that work is a bit more difficult. That said, Biore is one of those drug store products that is inexpensive, but says they still do the job of a more expensive line of cleansers. The Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub is their acne fighting scrub, and according to Biore it will clear up acne, unclog pores, and eliminate blackheads. That’s a lot for a cleanser to do, especially at the same time.

How it Works

Most acne, in one way or another, is caused when pores become clogged, and then bacteria fills in the clogged pore, creating a red lump. If pores are kept clear, this works to prevent acne in many cases. Additionally, even people who do not suffer from acne can have issues with enlarged pores and blackheads. Keeping pores clear, while helping prevent and treat acne, will also keep blackheads from forming. By using beads, the Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub gently unclogs pores, and an active ingredient of salicylic acid helps treat acne, and prevent it from developing.

Does it do what it says it does?

The Biore scrub does an amazing job, especially at a drug store price. One of my favorite things about the scrub is the smell. I hate using cleansers that smell like a hospital, so the Biore scrub is great. I have very, incredibly sensitive skin; my skin gets red just by washing my face, so scrubs usually are brutal to my skin. However, because the beads are rounded, and not gritty, my face didn’t feel like I’d been using sandpaper on it, which is normally what scrubs feel like on my skin. Because of the smoother beads, while your pores don’t feel like they are being gutted of crud and bacteria, it is actually working. I’ve found that my pores seem smaller, and clearer after a few days of use.

I really like using products that have an active ingredient of Salicylic acid in them. The reason that many products use it is because salicylic acid allows skin cells to she faster; doing this works to unclog pores, and once pores are cleaned and clear, they are tighter and smaller. This makes it harder for them to get goop in them, and then turn into acne. The other thing that I noticed was that over time the redness in my skin seemed to become less obvious. I also liked the fact that the cleanser was oil free, some pore unclogging cleansers still have oils in them, which seems to defeat the purpose to me. My skin also seemed much softer, even after the first time I used it. Apparently by sloughing off all those extra dead skin cells and random grime picked up through the day, it can really makes a difference in the smoothness of your skin.

I have skin that is incredibly fickle, and during the winter it dries out like crazy. I did find that using this scrub when my skin was drier really exacerbated the dryness. I discovered that I had to use a bit more moisturizer than usual, so I’m not sure if you have very dry skin that this is the best product for you; salicylic acid does have a lot of drying properties. That said, if you have a good oil free moisturizer, you may still be able to keep from drying out too much while using the Biore scrub.

Overall Impression

Overall I would say this is a great product to try. It does a good job of clearing out pores, which is something even people without acne problems can benefit from. Additionally, it smells wonderful, and it is inexpensive, something my wallet really appreciates. For the price, you really can’t beat Biore’s Unclogging Scrub.

Bye Bye Blemish Review

The Bye Bye Blemish line of products has been something of a cult hit for a while, because of their Bye Bye Blemish Drying lotion. It is a spot treatment for acne, and it has had a small, but loyal following for several years. It is regularly used on movie and TV sets to help deal with actor and actress breakouts. However, they also have a complete line of products to treat and prevent acne.

The Bye Bye Blemish line includes:

Bye Bye Blemish Drying Lotion

Description: This is their most popular product, and it is a spot treatment with salicylic acid and sulfur, to help dry out pimples quickly.

Review: This treatment is incredibly strong, and I do not recommend using it all over your face; it is very drying. It does a great job of clearing up acne. Swelling and redness of a zit goes down noticeably in a few hours. The sulfur does have a strange smell, but if you’re only applying it in small amounts, it isn’t very noticeable. This product is also really good for clearing up cystic pimples, which are buried deep under the skin. It dries them out quickly, and makes them less sensitive.

Bye Bye Blemish Healing Minerals

Description: This is a mineral powder that is applied to your face, after washing it. The minerals in the powder absorb excess oil, while the aloe in the powder helps soothe skin, and reduce redness.

Review: This is a good idea for an acne treatment. One of the major causes of acne is clogged pores, due to excess oil, and this powder does a good job of absorbing oil. Because it is made of minerals, even people with sensitive skin won’t have any issues with using it. I did find two problems with it though. The first is that it was a bit drying around my nose, but an extra dab of moisturizer fixed that. The second problem was that the application system for the mineral powder is a giant mess; powder goes everywhere. The best way I’ve found to apply it is to use a powder application brush.

Bye Bye Blemish Clean Pore Peel

Description: This peel is left on for 10-15 minutes, and when the peel is removed, it takes dirt and bacteria from your pores with it. It says it will shrink pores, and help eliminate blackheads.

Review: I’m not a particularly big fan of peels, I know some people swear by them, but I think, especially for acne, your best bet is a clay mask. That being said, the Clean Pore Peel did not do anything to change my mind about peels. It is flat out terrible. The mask is difficult to apply, and then when you do manage to get it on your face, it’s almost impossible to get it off. By scrubbing, washing, using hot water, and using a wash cloth, I only managed to make a dent in the goop in my face. I do not recommend this to anyone, for any reason.

Bye Bye Blemish Anti-Acne cleanser

Description: This body wash has microbeads in it to help exfoliate skin, and unclog pores. It has vitamin E and Salicylic Acid.

Review: This might work for someone who does not have sensitive skin. I’m not sure because after a day or two of using it I couldn’t bring myself to try again. It made my skin feel dry and hot, as though I had a sunburn. Apparently other people have had success with this wash, but based on what I’ve read online, many people have had the same issues that I did with irritation.

Overall, the Bye Bye Blemish line is rather disappointing. Their super star product, the Bye Bye Blemish Drying Lotion, seems to be the exception to a line up of mediocre products. So if you’re looking for great spot treatment, go with the Drying Lotion, but I’d look elsewhere for acne cleansers and treatments than the Bye Bye Blemish line.

Neutrogena Review

Neutrogena is a skin care company that offers numerous products that are aimed at both the treatment and prevention of acne. The products are also very cost-effective and many of the Neutrogena acne products have been recommended by dermatologists. I have used many Neutrogena acne products and have seen results with some, but not with others. Since I have experience using different acne products within the Neutrogena line, I will provide a detailed review of each product and make a recommendation based on my personal experience.

Oil-Free Acne Wash

I actually experienced fairly clear skin while using the Oil-Free Acne Wash. It has a really light scent, which is perfect for me since I do not like cleansers with a heavy perfume or medicated smell. It contains two percent salicylic acid, which worked really well for my skin and my skin felt completely clean after I used the cleanser.

What attracted me to this cleanser was the fact that it is oil-free, and it did not leave a residue on my skin or make my skin feel oily. The only negative aspect of this cleanser is that it did dry my skin somewhat and often left my skin feeling tight after cleansing. However, this was only temporary as I always applied a moisturizer afterwards. Overall, I would recommend the Oil-Free Acne Wash for anyone with mild-to-moderate acne.

Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask

What I liked most about the Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask was that it could be used as a daily cleanser and a mask. I applied it as a mask once a week and I felt as though it did reduce the frequency of my breakouts and heal existing breakouts that were present. When used as a cleanser, I felt it was over drying and made my face flake and peel. This is due to the 3.5 percent benzoyl peroxide concentration, which was far too much for my skin.

I experienced the best results with this product when I used it as a spot treatment. When I applied it directly to a blemish, I felt it helped to heal the blemish fairly quickly, although there was some skin redness. While this cleanser does help to clear skin and prevent against future breakouts, I felt it was too harsh for anyone with sensitive skin.

Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Spot Gel

From my experience, I would not recommend the Rapid Clear Acne Eliminating Spot Gel. Although this is intended to work as a spot treatment, I felt it did very little in clearing my breakouts. The only results I did achieve from using this product was dry skin that looked and felt irritated. I normally find that salicylic acid works tremendously for my skin, but this particular product did not produce any results. I also cannot validate the claim that it reduces breakouts within eight hours, as my breakouts did not reduce in size within that period of time.

Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent

Since my skin has a tendency to become oily, I tried the Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent and experienced positive results. Although it does sting slightly when it is first applied to the skin, it definitely controlled oil production and left my skin feeling fresh and cool. In addition to keeping oil and shine under control, I feel like this astringent also helps to keep pores clear and I also noticed a reduction in the frequency of my breakouts.

Even though my skin is sensitive, this product did not cause my skin to flake or peel, although I did use a daily moisturizer while using the astringent. Overall, I would definitely recommend this astringent for anyone who has oily skin and mild breakouts.

Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Night Cleansing Pads

In comparison to other Neutrogena acne products, I experienced the best results when using these cleansing pads. My skin felt very clean and refreshed after using these pads and it also effectively removed makeup. Although it does have a mild scent, I didn’t mind how it smelled once I saw how effective they were at treating my existing breakouts and preventing future blemishes.

SkinClearing Liquid Makeup

I tried this foundation because I was intrigued by a product that could treat breakouts while also covering them up. I did not find this to treat or prevent acne, as I did not see a difference in my skin while using this foundation. It may have actually made my acne worse, since I found it to be a very heavy makeup.

I also found it difficult to match my skin tone, as most of the foundations were either too light or too dark for my skin. Perhaps the only advantage of this product is that it did not make my skin oily and left a matte and shine-free finish all day. There are also many preservatives and chemicals in this foundation, which can cause irritation. I would not recommend this product as an acne treatment or as a foundation, due to my negative experience with the product.

Orovo Acne Review

Orovo Acne is a daily supplement that treats and prevents acne by nourishing the body with vitamins and minerals. It is also designed to reduce the amount of oil produced by the body and remove impurities and toxins from the body, which may reduce the frequency of blemishes.

This product is composed of all-natural ingredients and features 10 ingredients that have been called super foods. Unlike most topical treatments that only treat the symptoms of acne, the Orovo Acne supplement is intended to work deep beneath the skin, preventing acne before it develops. By supplying the body with nutrients, this product aims to strengthen skin and remove the toxins inside the body that may cause the development of acne.

The Orovo Acne supplement is packaged with the Exfozit Facial Scrub and Acnevva Acne Gel, which are two products that are also composed of all-natural ingredients. Since this product makes bold claims in how quickly and effectively these products treat acne, this article provides an overview of each product and lists possible advantages and disadvantages.

Orovo Acne Supplement

• Treats acne internally
• Removes Toxins
• Nourishes Skin
• Contains antioxidants

This supplement contains many all-natural ingredients that work by treating the external symptoms of acne and also improving and strengthening the skin from within. Many of the antioxidants included in this product fight free radical damage and flush out internal toxins that can have a negative effect on the skin’s appearance. Ingredients such as dandelion root and apple cider vinegar remove toxins and impurities that may cause acne. White willow bark and licorice root act as an anti-inflammatory and can reduce redness and swelling.

Exfozit Facial Scrub

• Penetrates pores
• All-natural

This exfoliating cleanser promotes the removal of dead skin cells and deeply cleans skin without stripping natural oils or causing dryness. This formulation features 27 all-natural ingredients that are designed to treat acne and remove acne-causing bacteria from the skin. Aloe vera and white willow extracts have anti-inflammatory properties and help to soothe inflamed skin. Green tea is an antibacterial agent and eliminates bacteria and toxins from the skin. Redmond clay calms skin that is red and irritated and also reduces the frequency of blemishes.

Acnevva Acne Gel

• Chemical-free
• Penetrates pores
• Refines skin
• Reduces bacteria

This gel does not contain harsh chemicals that will irritate skin or cause dryness. It penetrates deep into pores, ensuring that pores do not become clogged with debris that can lead to the development of acne. The Acnevva Acne Gel is also helpful at treating whiteheads and blackheads, in addition to clearing and preventing breakouts. Witch hazel and tea tree oil are astringents that clear pores and reduce the signs of inflammation. They are also helpful at eliminating problematic bacteria. Lavender encourages the growth of healthy skin cells and encourages wound healing, which helps to treat breakouts.

The main advantage of the Orovo Acne supplement, Exfozit Facial Scrub and the Acnevva Acne Gel is the fact that they do not contain any chemicals or synthetic ingredients, making them safe for even the most sensitive types of skin. The products can also be used to treat acne that occurs anywhere, including the face, back, shoulders and chest.

These products work together to treat the causes of acne, and attempt to purify the skin and exfoliate dead skin cells. Many of the ingredients in these products also are effective at reducing the appearance of post acne marks and can improve the texture of the skin.

While there are numerous antioxidants and vitamins included in the Orovo Acne line, these ingredients do not appear to be very effective in treating individuals who have moderate-to-severe acne. Adding ingredients such as tea tree oil, witch hazel and green tea extract are effective ingredients that provide benefits to the skin, but these ingredients should really be used alongside salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for maximum benefits.

The price of this kit can also become quite excessive, depending on how many of the supplements are taken each day. If the maximum dosage of three capsules are taken each day, the entire bottle will only last 15 days, which is expensive when compared to other acne treatments that may be more effective.

In addition to treating acne, the supplement also makes the claim that it will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can even aid in weight loss. It is claims like these that are often associated with scams and products that are not as effective as they claim to be. Given these types of claims, individuals with acne-prone skin may be better off searching for other products that will clear their skin.

BenzaClin Review

Trying BenzaClin was the worst mistake that I have ever made in my life. My doctor prescribed it to me when I needed something that would clear up my acne before going to a wedding. It was extremely expensive and it nearly ruined my life. The ingredients in the medication made my flare-ups even worse and gave me horrible dry skin. Please do some searches on this acne system before you purchase it. There may be some ingredients in the medication that you may be allergic to. I have never heard of some of these ingredients and I have used different acne products. My doctor assured me that it was the absolute best system, non-evasive and natural and will not cause any side effects. Boy was he wrong. BenzaClin is actually just one bottle and not an actual system. This disappointed me greatly because it cost almost as much as an acne system.

I have suffered from acne since middle school; it went from mild to severe after I turned 13. But since then, I have used every product that you can think of and they either made my acne worse or gave me horrible dry skin, but still I tried. If you have or currently suffer from acne, then you have probably tried everything. I am that person who has tried everything both prescribed and over the counter. I have tried everything from Nature’s Cure, Clean & Clear, Neutrogena, Proactiv, Skin ID, Murad, Olay, and finally Clearasil. There comes a time when people actually reach their breaking point and try other natural ingredients for their skin, and depending on how often they are used, they actually work. I finally came across a product called BenzaClin that my doctor actually prescribed and swore by it. I am sad to say that it was a wasted trip to the doctor’s office because he prescribed me something that nearly ruined my face even worse than my acne. It did clear up and dry up the pimples; however, it severely dried my skin out and left it flaky and somewhat wrinkled not matter how much moisturizer I used on my face. The sun was my worst enemy because it burned my skin and even caused my face to sunburn. I am African American and do not burn in the sun, but after using this product and then going out in the sun with sunscreen on, the sun still burned my skin. This particular acne medication was just too strong my skin.

What is BenzaClin?

BenzaClin is a topical acne medication that is prescribed by a doctor for the purpose of curing acne. The medication includes two very acne medications called Benzoyl Peroxide and Clindamycin and very effective for people with acne vulgaris.

To eliminate acne
Help fight acne causing bacteria
Reduce inflammation of pimples

Time frame

My doctor told me that I should see results within one week of use; however, you have to use the medication exactly as prescribed.

Depends on your insurance carrier and if they cover BenzaClin or a generic brand.

Natural ?
Not very natural
Some very harmful ingredients

Benzoyl Peroxide

Side effects

Extremely dry skin
Shortness of breath

If you are experiencing any side effects from this particular acne medication please call your doctor right away because you might be allergic to the ingredients in it. Some severe reactions include swelling, shortness of breath, and vomiting. In some mild cases, diarrhea may occur.

Money back guarantee

There are no guarantees with this product. It either works or it does not. The only way to find out for sure if it does work is to keep using but if it does not, then you can always stop; however, you cannot send it back. You’re pretty much stuck with a product that you do not want unless you choose to throw it away.

I personally did not have a good running with BenzaClin whatsoever. Maybe this is due to the fact that my skin type is different from other people’s skin types. What did not work for me might work for someone else. Just be patient with the results. I waited two weeks and barely saw any results except for severe dry skin that took a long time to go away.
